Whales and dolphins are magnificent creatures, and watching them swim and perform their breathtaking acrobatics are simply a sight to behold. There are however some parts of the seas where these creatures frequent most due to some factors, major among them being seasons. As such, here are the best places to see dolphins and whales and the best time to get the best glimpses. Let’s start with the whales.
i) Hermanus, South Africa
This is one of the best sites, which offer land-based whale watching. In the period between July and November, hundreds of whales migrate past its shores, giving the viewers a great sight of the biggest sea creatures interacting and courting each other. The whales are as free as they can be as they move, and the viewers are entertained to acrobatic moves by the 50 ton 50 foot long whales, which, when you think about it, seem impractical coming from them.
ii) Hervey Bay, Queensland Australia
Humpback whales frequent this part of the show in the period between July and November. Viewers are entertained to their spectacular acrobatics as they launch themselves out of the water and splash back in. They are known to approach the boats sometimes out of curiosity, so don’t get worried when you see one coming towards you, they are harmless.
iii) Monterey Bay, California
This is one of the best places to see multiple whale and dolphin species. During the summer and fall, the humpback whale, and the biggest of them all, the blue whale, move to this region to feed, and the sight of these two massive creatures’ side by side is breath taking. You can also watch the gray whales as they migrate from December to April. Over to the cute adorable creatures who you can safely give the title, “man’s best friend,” in the ocean that is, the dolphins. There are lots of places to watch and even swim with dolphins, but our focus is on the best places to see dolphins and whales.
